Why store screenshots should reference day-one tasks
Mobile teams often treat store screenshots as brand wallpaper. In acquisition-heavy apps, each frame is a promise about the first minute inside the product. When that promise diverges from onboarding, activation drops even if install volume looks healthy.
We map screenshot sequences to three onboarding moments: permission, first value, and first share or save. Each moment gets a cohort tag so paid channels can be judged on activation, not just cost per install.
The exercise is lightweight. Product, growth, and design spend ninety minutes aligning frames to events already in your analytics. The output is a revision backlog ranked by expected activation impact.
This approach does not require new engineering for the audit itself. Implementation still needs your release cadence, but decisions become evidence-based instead of aesthetic debates.
